11 Months and Manners

Ammar Yusuf genap 11 bulan hari ini. Sekejap je, tau-tau dah big boy.

When I said that you're big boy, doesn't mean you can drive a car tau -__-. Pantang Daddy berhenti parking mana-mana terlompat-lompat dia tengok stereng kereta, ingat Daddy stop sebab nak tukar turn dengan dia agaknya -__-

Bulan depan dah genap setahun, ya Allah cepatnya masa berlalu. Birthday Ammar Yusuf masa bulan puasa, tak sure lagi nak buat birthday party ke tidak. Mungkin buat lepas raya ke. We'll see how. Belum fikir pun lagi, hee orang lain punyalah semangat untuk first birthday anak, kita boleh relax saje.

As for now, we're in the middle of teaching him manners. Yeah I believed it's never too early to teach the little one good manners. Benda simple-simple je, like saying thank you, excuse me, please, I'm sorry.. Dan juga belajar passing things using right hand, passing things properly (since the way I see it, Ammar Yusuf has a big potential to be left-handed). Bila dia pegang sesuatu dan I nak barang itu, just say nicely to him,

"Can Mummy have my handphone please?"

or

"Give it to Mummy please?"

Mula-mula dulu dia akan campak je ke arah I, then I'll ask him to collect the thing back and pass it properly using his right hand. Bila dia dapat buat dengan baik sampai ke tangan I, I'll say thank you, cheer "Clever boy!" and my husband and I will clap our hands just to encourage him and make him feels like he's doing a right thing. Masa tu mesti dia pun akan tepuk tangan juga, HEHE. Begitu juga kalau dia mahukan sesuatu dari tangan I, I'll asked him to say please eventhough dia belum boleh bercakap pun, just so he'll get used to say nicely and appropriately everytime he wants something from us or anybody else ;) But later, bila kita ulang lagi buat perkara yang sama dan dia nampak dah bosan and mula campak barang lagi, I'll just let him be.  Macam tu juga kalau ajar membaca. Masa mood dia tengah baik, tengah happy, I akan ajar dia sebut few letters/words. Bila dia nampak dah bosan, I'll just stop and let him play. No force. Of course, I don't expect Ammar Yusuf tidak akan buat salah, it's just unfair to him. Kita yang dah tua ni pun masih belajar, apatah lagi dia.

Dan untuk membentuk peribadi yang baik dalam anak, of course kami berdua juga kena tunjuk contoh terbaik (it's a lifelong learning I tell you, at our age now we both still learning!). Children learn best by example, and they will learn most of what they learn about respect from watching the parents. Maka kami sangat perlu jaga percakapan dan perbuatan. The way my husband treats me and vice versa, semua tu ada pengaruhnya pada anak kami. Kami belajar sama-sama, we make mistakes some times, and we learn again. Tak apalah, new parents kan, takkan nak terus perfect right? ;) Since Ammar Yusuf is (obviously) a boy, I memang expect my husband to play a major role in educating my son about manners and respect, to be a father-figure. Studies have shown that a lack of a father-figure in a child's life can have severe negative psychological impacts upon a child's personality and psychology. Sebab anak lelaki ni usually memang akan copy his father's behaviour/attitude. InshaAllah you can do it kan, Abang? ;)

That's about it so far. How about you? Let's share tips on how to teach our kids manners :)
