Tipping

Memang jarang or almost tak pernahlah aku bagi, sebab aku selalu rasa that all those people were paid for their job, macam aku jugalah, if I managed to close a deal with my subcontractors or do something good for them, I never expect any 'tips' from them because I was paid by my employer to perform the job.

Sebab aku taknak isi minyak sendiri and I always hope (expect) there will be anyone else to help me to pump the fuel for my car, sebab... well, aku geli. Aku memang ada issue sikit untuk sentuh benda yang disentuh pelbagai orang; tombol pintu, lift button, gelas di restoran (I even asked for a straw untuk minum air suam -___-"). So untuk pegang hose minyak tu memang selagi boleh aku akan cuba elaklah; kalau terpaksa isi sendiri memang puaslah aku lumur tangan aku dengan sanitizer selepas itu ishhh meremang bulu roma fikir beribu juta kuman aku pegang. Geli! Worst come to worst aku akan biar minyak berkelip sampai rumah and let my husband do it for me :p

Seorang lelaki tua berkopiah putih yang sentiasa sugul wajahnya, seorang lagi lelaki yang agak muda sedikit dan sentiasa ceria, both are either Pakistani or Bangladeshi. Biasanya bila nampak kereta aku, salah seorang akan datang dan ucapkan salam, lap cermin kereta sementara menunggu aku bayar di kaunter, kemudian sambil isi minyak dia akan tanya "Kaka suda makan?" hehe. Once finished, I will tipped them with RM2, kadang kadang RM3 for helping me out. Begitulah setiap kali.

This morning, I went there as usual. He did his usual things and I was just playing with my phone in the car while waiting for him to finish filling the fuel. After everything was done, I tipped him with RM2 and stayed in the car planning to finish reading something on WhatsApp (takde kereta lain pun kat belakang masa itu please jangan kecam aku). But something suddenly caught my attention. As soon as he received my tip, dengan ceria dia berlari masuk dalam kedai Petronas tu, pergi ke rak roti, ambil roti Gardenia 80 sen tu dan sebotol air mineral, dan terus ke kaunter bayaran.

I was astonished. Macam terpaku. Rasa macam.... eh tak tahulah. It was indescribable feelings thinking that he must be expecting a tip from someone just so he can finally had his breakfast and I might happened to be the first person to tip him this morning! Rasa macam, kesianlah. Haish... It was just RM2, but I never thought that RM2 can bring 'happiness' in someone else's life. Things that we sometimes take for granted....

Lesson learnt; Let's tip more people from now onwards. You'll never know how much a Ringgit or two means to someone out there :)
