The Negotiator

Ammar Yusuf, oh my God this boy, he negotiates almost EVERY single time it drives me crazy sometimes.

Scene 1
Mummy: Nanti lepas Mummy mandi, Mummy solat, kita sambung buat homework semalam okay?
Ammar Yusuf: Lepas Mummy mandi, Mummy solat, kita makan honeystars, Abang main Lego, lepas tu kita buat homework.

Mummy: Boleh, tapi makan satu je kongsi kongsi. Abang selalu makan sikit je tak habis.
Ammar Yusuf: Kalau makan satu je, nanti satu lagi semut makan.
Mummy: Kalau tak buka lagi takdelah semut makan.

Scene 3
On the way to Nanny's place at Subang. Daddy stopped somewhere.
Ammar Yusuf: Abang nak makan pisang goreng la. Kita nak pergi beli pisang goreng ke?
Daddy: Kita nak pergi rumah Nanny la. Tapi Daddy nak basuh kereta dulu kejap.
Ammar Yusuf: Okay Daddy pergi basuh kereta, lepas tu kita pergi beli pisang goreng. Okay?

Segala benda dia akan negotiate. There's no easy way with him, hampir tak ada benda yang bila kita nak dia buat, dia terus buat. Ada sekali dua la, yang bila kami minta dia buat something dan dia terus, "Okay", masa tu my husband and I looked at each other, full of surprise. Terkejut sebab jarang jarang berlaku. Haha. Nak suruh mandi kena negotiate, nak suruh makan kena negotiate. Semua benda dia nak bargain, tawar menawar. And he makes sure he wins.

Sometimes aku memang honestly cannot take it, I just let my husband deals with him. One day I let out my frustration to his father.

"Ammar Yusuf ni, semua benda nak negotiate. Bila suruh buat something adaaaaaa je benda dia persoalkan. Adaaaaaa je cadangan dia yang bertentangan dengan apa yang kita minta. Kan Daddy kan?"

My husband looked at me, smiling. No, almost laughing.

"Agak agak, macam perangai siapa?"

Aku terdiam jap.

Oh my God.

He is exactly like me. EXACTLY. Akulah tu, Memang hampir semua benda aku akan negotiate. I called it 'discussion', H called it 'argument'. I really mean well, bukanlah saja saja nak persoalkan apa apa yang dia cadangkan, aku macam sentiasa nak fikir other possibilities, other ways to do it.. Is that what Ammar Yusuf actually felt?

Because I'm so used to it." With me. Our second thing we have in common, first, lambat mesra; we both jenis lambat mesra dengan orang, bukan tidak mesra, tapi lambat nak mesra. And second, this. Negotiate.

Two strong negotiators your father has to deal with. If we use it wisely, we can make a good team, Ammar Yusuf ;)

Really hope that his 'talent' can be channeled to something beneficial in future. For the time being, perhaps it would be better if you can just listen to your mother and this is non-negotiable. Okay?
