From Mama With Love

Selepas hampir sebulan tidak pulang ke pangkal jalan, semalam kami membuat keputusan untuk pulang melawat ibu bapa di Kampung Batu.

"Waaah dah tinggi cucu Grandmaaaa rindunyaaa kenapa dah lama tak datangggggg!" 
(ayat Mama menyambut cucu)

"Baju baru ke? Kenapa kau berisi ni? Kenapa kulit muka kau jadi macam tu?" 
(ayat Mama menyambut anak perempuan. Thanks, Ma. I miss you too -____-")

So after having my favourite Gulai Telur Itik as my lunch and hi-tea (that explains my sudden increase in weight), we (Mama, my sisters and I) talked about how women should take care of themselves.

Mama told us about one of his friend who has been mistakenly addressed as a 'mother' of her own husband, sedihnyaaaaa sedangkan jalan dengan suami disangka kakak dan adik pun sudah cukup merentap perasaan, apatah lagi disangka emak kepada suami kita T____T

Mama, my beautiful mother, really takes care of herself, her skin, her health. Mama bukan jenis bersolek, atau berpakaian fancy seperti para ibu yang bekerjaya, but at the age of 64 this year, she really doesn't look like it! Her skin, mashaAllah, aku tak nampak any wrinkles pun, apatah lagi parut jerawat or whatnot. Mama tak ambil sebarang collagen pun, atau apa apa produk kecantikan yang merepek-repek. Apa yang aku tahu, Mama hanya ambil Vitamin C (500-1000mg sehari), minum air kosong secukupnya dan mengamalkan green tea hampir setiap hari. 

You know what else is her routine? WORK OUT! Semenjak zaman remaja Mama memang obsessed dengan work out. She told us how every morning she will run around his neighbourhood, lari naik turun tangga rumah kosong yang still under construction in front of her house, she really loves getting sweat! That routines stopped when she got married and giving birth one after another (she gave birth 8 times, all SVD, mind you), but I guess taking care of her children is one way of working out too, that keeps her healthy and growing old gracefully. Dan bila anak anak dah besar that she finally have time for herself, Mama kembali memulakan rutin itu semula. If you have been to my parents', you can see betapa banyaknya peralatan bersenam yang available there, dah macam gymnasium! Bila balik rumah Mama and she sees you duduk saje saje tu mesti Mama akan suruh lari atas treadmill la, cycling atas benda macam basikal itulah, ataupun paling senang, duduk atas kerusi urut bagi pecah lemak segala. I always opt for the last one HAHA, paling tak berpeluh, duduk je situ takyah buat apa :p Bila tahu aku pergi swimming last couple of years, she was so proud and kept saying that swimming is the best exercise ever as it involves the whole body, and later keep planning to send my other sisters to swimming class as well.

Semalam Mama turut ajar beberapa senaman untuk perut dan lower body (bahagian badan aku yang paling bermasalah). Cara yang betul untuk push up, plank, side plank, and squat. Sebenarnya aku lately sedang undergo 30-Days Squat Challenge tu, setiap pagi aku buat dalam toilet sebelum mandi untuk panaskan badan, kalau tidak memang sejuuuukk nak mandi! Tapi kemudian rasa sakitnya lutut nak turun tangga, dah macam orang tua sakit sakit lutut. Rupanya cara aku squat tu salah! Terus Mama demonstrates cara squat yang betul. Patutlahh. Nasib baik cepat betulkan, kalau dah habis 30 hari buat dengan cara yang salah, kurusnya tidak, tapi lutut jadi bermasalah pula. Awesome okay Mama ni, boleh jadi gym instructor :p

Her favourite show (other than telenovelas, so typical housewife this lady -____-") is The Doctors, dan rancangan apa entah yang ada aerobik bagai tu dan Mama akan kerah all of us to join in. She loves to read anything concerning health, majalah RAPI lah, SIHAT lah, apa benda entah lagi dan akan simpan any articles yang dirasakan berguna untuk kami. Health is everything for her, you boleh mekap all you want but if you're not healthy, if your skin is not healthy, you tetap takkan menyerlah. 

Unfortunately, none of her daughters inherited her obsession HAHAHA. We're all too lazyyyyy, we think that we're still very younggggggg no need to work out whatsoever HAHAHA so silly. We tried anyway, or at least I tried :p Tapi tak dapat nak keep up with the routine lah. Mama sangat mementingkan penampilan anak anak perempuannya. Mama akan tegur kalau nampak kami naik badan sangat, atau kulit muka nampak bermasalah. Orang perempuan kena jaga benda benda ni, sebab orang perempuan senang nampak tua, katanya. Apatah lagi bila anak anak perempuannya mostly berpasangan dengan lelaki yang tidak jauh beza umur pun, unlike herself and Baba, beza 17 tahun! Mama suka bila kami dress welll, you know everytime nak balik rumah Mama, aku akan duduk depan wardrobe fikir nak pakai apa macamlah nak pergi dating ke apa. I have to look presentable in front of her, it makes her happy, and seeing her happy makes me happy too.

Mama discouraged all her daughters to become housewives. Tak galakkan langsung. Eventhough she is a housewife herself. A woman should earn her own money, she says. Should be independent (no offense to all housewives out there). Aku sendiri, macam tak berapa minat pun nak jadi housewife, and aku pernah cakap dengan H kalau aku jadi housewife pun aku nak jadi housewife yang ada aktiviti sendiri, seperti girls' outing at least once a month, yang ada exercise regime once a week (yoga/zumba class, aerobic, gym, etc) yang masih ada social life dan boleh berpakaian cantik. Or at least be a WAHM, instead of SAHM (maybe it's just me as I was brought up this way, don't we all have different family upbringings?)

As we ended the conversation, I looked at my husband. Wow. He looks so young. So handsome. And I looked at my face in the mirror. Wow. With all the collagen I consumed, what happened to my face T___T. I just don't look healthy, I look so dull and boring. I really should take care of my health more (physically). It's not easy juggling between my career and my family, yes. Tapi kalaulah kesihatan aku tidak memberasangkan (nauzubillahiminzaalik), segala perkara penting dalam hidup aku akan turut terjejas. Health comes first.

A woman should really take care of herself more than anything, so that she can take care of others more.
